FIAP Online Event - Animal Portraiture with Tim Flach Sunday 14th Jan

FIAP Photo Academy Online Events presents Creating Empathy Through Animal Portraiture with Tim Flach on Sunday 14th January 2024 at 17:00 London Time. This free event is open to all SPF Club members to attend.

Tim Flach will discuss his body of work, particularly in the context of what depictions of animals can most powerfully connect us with them and evoke empathy. He has always been fascinated by why specific images have emerged and their commonalities. He will explore perceptual theories around luminance, colour, left gaze bias, and composition.

Tim Flach is a photographer known for his stylised animal portraits. He has dedicated his career to documenting biodiversity and conveying a sense of empathy towards our planet’s endangered creatures. Driven by a desire to communicate stories of the natural world, his work is informed by research into how imagery can lead to pro-environmental outcomes and is recognised for its originality.

Flach has five main bodies of work which have been exhibited worldwide, including shows at Museums of Natural History, from Paris to Beijing. He has seven international award-winning books translated into multiple languages. An Honorary Doctorate from the University of the Arts London and Honorary Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society (2013), he is President of the Association of Photographers and an Artist in Residence at Linacre College, University of Oxford. He lives in London with his wife and son.
